The whole scan runs on the phone. On-device text recognition reads the receipt, and parsers and matching rules written for Money Koi sort the items into the right categories — no external service reads it. With a connection, the app may look up a shop’s VAT number in the EU’s VIES register or open the link in a receipt’s QR code to fill in shop, date and total. Without an account, the booking and the photo stay on the phone. In a Cloud book, they are backed up encrypted to an EU server; the photo upload can be switched off.

Without an account, the book is stored on the phone, and Money Koi’s server never receives it. With Cloud, the sync to the EU servers is encrypted in transit and at rest. It is not end-to-end encrypted: the server works with the book itself to sync it, share it and show it in the web dashboard.

No. Financial data is never sold, shared or used for advertising. There is no ad network in the app.

Usage statistics are only sent after a clear yes, go to Money Koi’s own server and never contain amounts, names or text. Crash reports are scrubbed of personal data, stored in the EU and can be switched off in settings.

No. There’s nothing to download and nothing to switch on. The scanner works the moment the app is installed.

Accuracy depends on the receipt, so the app doesn’t just trust the result: it checks the sum of the extracted line items against the printed total and shows how well they match. Everything is reviewed before it’s saved.

It can be fixed in the review screen. Merchant, date, total and every single line item can be edited before the transaction is created.

Yes. Several photos of one receipt are processed together as a single transaction.

Completely. Reading a receipt needs no server, so scanning works in airplane mode exactly as it does at home. In a Cloud book, the photo upload simply catches up once the connection is back.

It has parsers written for SPAR, BILLA, LIDL, ADEG, HOFER, TEDI, Smyths and OBI, plus a general parser for every other store. The scanner is made for Austrian receipts: total, date and photo work on most of them, and items from other stores are a best guess that the review screen can fix. Receipts with the Austrian QR code are read especially fast.

Yes. Money Koi works fully without a connection — add, edit, delete and scan offline. Nothing is stuck behind a loading spinner.

With Cloud, automatically in the background once the connection is back — a sync never has to be triggered by hand. Without Cloud, the book stays on the phone and nothing needs to sync.

Yes, with Cloud. Signing in with the same account keeps the books in sync on every phone and tablet, and on the web.

Money Koi has separate books. The personal book stays private, and a partner or the family can be invited into a shared one for the costs carried together. Shared books are part of Cloud: only the owner needs it, and everyone invited uses every feature inside the book at no cost.

No. Only a shared book is visible to invited people. The personal book stays personal.

Android is available on Google Play. With Cloud, the web dashboard runs in any browser at my.moneykoi.com. An iPhone version is planned for the end of 2026.

No. Free and Pro work on one phone without an account, and Money Koi’s server never receives the book. An account is needed for Cloud, for joining a shared book and for the web dashboard.

Anytime. Deleting the account in settings removes the data from the servers too.

The app is available in English, German and Japanese. Each book has one currency; several currencies in one book are planned for early 2027.
