Where they hide
Most people underestimate their subscriptions. Usually not from carelessness – they're simply billed in different places, at different times.
Three months of bank statements
Look for the same amount at the same time each month, and for words like "subscription", "membership" or "renewal".
App store subscriptions
In-app subscriptions are billed through Google Play or the App Store – listed on the subscriptions page in the account settings.
PayPal and stored cards
Services paid with PayPal or a stored card appear there under "automatic payments" – not by name on the bank statement.
The inbox
Search for "trial", "renewal" or "receipt". Free trials that quietly turned into paid plans often show up here first.
Yearly contracts
Insurance, domains, memberships and antivirus are billed once a year – easy to forget, and often the most expensive.
Before cancelling
One streaming service at a time: finish the series, cancel, switch to the next. Same shows, a fraction of the cost.
Ad-supported tiers, family or student plans and yearly billing often cost far less than the original plan.
Start a free trial, set a reminder two days before it ends. The decision to pay stays a decision – not a renewal date.
In Germany, subscriptions sold online must have a cancel button, and most contracts signed since March 2022 can be cancelled monthly once the minimum term is over. Rules differ in other countries – the contract states the notice period.

Money Koi groups recurring costs so the monthly total never sneaks up again. Private, offline, and without a bank connection.
